On the 12th of December, all the musicians of Lincoln Christian were able to unite for one big Christmas concert. By 7:00 p.m. the high school gym was packed with people to see all the performers from junior high to high school. The concert was on a constant rotation of choir, band, and orchestra, each one performing 2-3 songs. The different groups all performed well-known but loved Christmas songs that made everyone feel the excitement and magic of the season.

The songs were beautifully performed by each group, with the occasional surprise of a solo, drums, or sleigh bells. The band even performed a brand-new song, “A Solitary Wish” by Brian Balmages, during its world-premiere. Brian has also set up a go-fund-me to raise money and awareness for the homeless population. https://www.gofundme.com/brianbalmages All the proceeds from the sale of this song on the page will go to charities that benefit the homeless. During the concert, music was well balanced between sacred and secular songs but all of them contributed to the anticipation of Christmas. Besides the songs, the performers also communicated the joy of the season as the audience looked out for the occasional red Santa Claus hats scattered among the black and white dressed performers.

My personal favorite part of the evening was the finale, when the band, choir, and accompanying alumni joined together for the final song, “Christmastime” by Michael W. Smith. The song was filled from beginning to end with Christmas spirit and created a cheerful Christmas atmosphere to end the evening with.
